Queenie Lion Kemarre
Atnwengerrp, Utopia Region
Queenie is a senior woman of her country in the Utopia Region. As an artist, Queenie holds a strong importance in her Awelye, the women's ceremony and body paint where she is rarely seen to paint anything else. Involved in the batik workshops held in Utopia during the 1980's, Queenie was also part of the CAAMA summer project of 1988-9 where the medium of batik amongst Utopia artists was swapped for a more liberal material of acrylics on canvas.
Today, Queenie continues to paint, particularly in her country's two traditional colours of red ochre and white.
